Why Medicine and Orthopedics
I always had a strong interest in science, particularly the how and why. Growing up in a house with a college professor in microbiology certainly sparked some interest too! Throw in a lifelong love of sports and outdoor activity, an injury in college, and a fantastic surgery rotation in medical school and all signs were pointing to a career in orthopedics. The chance to work with people that are injured and help restore them back to health was and is the reason I enjoy being a surgeon. It is why I love to go to work everyday and what pushes me to advance techniques and procedures in my field.
